July 2020

Hello All,

I think it is safe to say that my first season as Chairman has not quite turned out as intended! Our plans to develop the club have had to be put on hold during the continuing Covid-19 pandemic, and we now wrestle with anxiety over whether grassroots football will ever be the same again. That said, we remain ever hopeful that next season will not be overly impacted, at least on the pitch, and are working towards being ready to play competitive matches in September.

As far as last season is concerned, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you all for your efforts and continuing support of the club. It may not have turned out as we all expected but it in no way diminishes the achievements and successes we all shared.

In other news……..

Presentation night

Regrettably we have taken the decision to cancel a large presentation event this season. Each team will be able to celebrate their season individually, socially distant of course. Coaches will be given medals and trophies later this month and it will be left to them to arrange your event. Please be sure to take the time celebrate your achievements and I would like to congratulate all of those who win individual team awards.

The fact we cannot all gather to celebrate is far from satisfactory, I’m sure you’ll agree, but with no timescales on when we can safely meet up in larger groups it makes sense to crack on and close out the season.

New ground

Some good news here! The car park is nearing completion and our expectation is that when the league season starts we will be using the new pitches for matches. Training will however continue at Junction Road for the foreseeable future. The new clubhouse will not be ready for the start of the season unfortunately, but we will still be able to use the facilities at Junction Road for the time being.

Growing the club

As soon as Covid-19 restrictions are relaxed sufficiently we will be running taster events for U7 mini soccer and girls aged 8-11. If you know of any children looking to play football for Alderbury, let me know and I’ll add their parents to my contact list.

Next season’s under 15s are also on the lookout for more players so again, if you know anybody who might be interested please refer them to the website and look up contact details for the coach, Dan Molland.

On our website there are a number of volunteering opportunities that you may wish to consider.  Joining our volunteer force is incredibly rewarding and a great opportunity for you to help shape our club.  Please take a look and speak to me if you are interested or want further information. We are also looking for a new head coach for our current U7/8 group following the departure of Andy Pearson.

Have a happy and healthy summer.
